“Agbiag Pasuquin: Ili A Nadur-as.”

Brief History of Pasuquin

As early as the 17th century the municipality was known as PA-ASOKEN. The name PA-ASOKEN as derived from a local dialect “pa-asok” which literally means kindling a fire to produce a smoke. The smoke was kindled on a hill called Sentinella, where the watchman monitored if there were invading ships coming from the South China Sea, to warn the settlers. Upon seeing the smoke, the settlers below the hill would assemble for war and meet the coming invaders, whether they were Chinese, Tirongs, Ibaliws, etc. at the shores of the West Philippine Sea. The Frailes and Spanish Conquistadors then named the area with the growing community “PA-ASOKEN” which later transformed into “PASUQUIN.”

The curtain has fallen on this year’s Tan-ok ni Ilocano Festival of Festivals, a grand cultural showcase that brought together 20 municipalities and two cities across the province in a vibrant celebration of Ilocano identity. It was a stage of color, rhythm, and pride. While Pasuquin ultimately landed at the bottom of the rankings, the result does not define the heart and dedication poured into the performance. Representing our beloved Dumadara Festival and Panagsana Festival, our artists and performers gave more than just a show — they gave their time, their energy, and their sacrifices. Weeks of rehearsals, physical exhaustion, and personal commitments were all set aside to carry the name of Pasuquin onto the Tan-ok stage with pride. The Municipal Government rightfully commends these performers for their courage and commitment. Victory is not always measured by trophies, but by the passion and unity displayed in every step and beat. Behind them stood the silent heroes — the dedicated employees of the Local Government Unit — who worked tirelessly, from ensuring the performers’ safe transport to and from the venue to providing full support on the day of the event. With utmost gratitude, we also recognize Barangay Carusikis for generously allowing the Pasuquin creative team to hold rehearsals at their barangay court. Spearheaded by Barangay Captain Joseph G. Galvezo, this act of support reflects the bayanihan spirit that fuels our community’s strength. The whole Pasuquin stands proud of Team Pasuquin. They may not have taken home the crown, but they fought a good fight and delivered a performance worthy of applause. On the Tan-ok stage, they carried not just costumes and choreography, but the pride of an entire town — and for that, they are champions in our hearts.Indeed, A promising Pasuquin.#PROMISINGPASUQUIN ...
